Do you enjoy working with your hands? Do you like to come up with ideas, design, and create unique products? In the Creative Craftsman program, you’ll do a lot of hands-on work.
You come up with ideas, design and create unique, handcrafted products. In addition to bringing your own ideas to life, you will also work on projects for clients.
Within your field, you will learn a variety of techniques and work with different machines and tools to create high-quality products.
During your first year, you will work with a range of materials in our workshops. You will develop practical skills and get to know the four specialisations at SintLucas. After your first year, you will choose one of the following specialisations:

What am I doing?
During this course, you will spend a lot of time in our workshops. Here, you will work on assignments that teach you how to create high-quality products. You will then bring your designs to life and experiment with different materials. Sometimes, you will even create a small series of products.
You will start with a sketch of your design and create a technical drawing. You will then work with different materials and experiment with their possibilities. You will learn to work with a variety of machines and tools. This course focuses on modern craftsmanship, teaching you how to combine traditional handcrafting techniques with digital technologies.
What am I making?
During your first year, you will work with different materials in our workshops. You will develop practical skills and get to know the different specialisations at SintLucas. After your first year, you will choose one of the following four specialisations:
Glass
You design and create stained-glass windows or restore existing stained-glass windows in historic and/or listed buildings. Sometimes, you will work on commissions for clients. These projects can include new stained-glass windows, restoration projects or warm glass objects, such as unique pieces or small series of corporate gifts.
Leather
You will create a wide range of products and applications using leather or alternative materials. From bags and shoes to various accessories, such as laptop covers and tool cases. You will create your own designs or work on commissions for clients.
Ceramics
You will create unique ceramic products, objects or small series. These can range from tableware, such as mugs and plates, to interior products, such as vases and bowls. The focus is on creating models and moulds that can be used to produce ceramic products in larger quantities. You will work with traditional techniques such as throwing, modelling, casting and glazing. You will also explore contemporary techniques, such as 3D printing.
Textiles
You will learn techniques such as machine knitting, weaving, tufting, pattern design and hat making. You will create products for fashion, interiors, the textile industry and the arts. Sometimes you will make something for yourself, while at other times you will work on a commission for a client.
What am I learning?
You will develop knowledge and skills in drawing, design, materials, traditional craftsmanship techniques, cost calculation, entrepreneurship and digital skills. Of course, the programme also includes general subjects such as Dutch, English and mathematics.

What should I be able to do and like?
You have a good sense of materials and design, as well as strong spatial and technical awareness. You keep up with developments in craftsmanship, design, interiors, fashion and sustainability. You enjoy working with your hands, can turn a (digital) design into a finished product and are not afraid to experiment with materials and new, innovative techniques. Do you recognise yourself in this? Then there’s a good chance you have what it takes to become a creative craftsperson!
What can I do after SintLucas?
After completing the program, you can start your own business or work in a studio or the corporate sector. You can also continue your studies, for example, in a higher professional education program in art, product design, design, interior design, or a teacher training program for creative subjects.

How registration and admission works
Starting October 30, 2026, you can register via the website and will receive an invitation to a matching interview. You can bring along a creative piece of work or complete an assignment, after which you will receive a positive or negative admission recommendation. You are always eligible for admission and can make an informed decision on your own.Read more about application and admission here.

“From a young age, I knew I wanted to do something creative. I visited the program during the open house, and that gave me a really good idea of the possibilities within the Design & Crafts track. The examples of students’ work got me excited. “One of my favorite assignments in the first year was creating a Royal Ascot hat. This was a free-form assignment from the textile track where we were allowed to come up with and create the design ourselves. For this assignment, I didn’t just use textiles; I also experimented with techniques and materials from other studios. I learned a lot from this experience.”
