During the AV Specialist program, you’ll learn to tell stories through moving images and sound as a visual artist. We provide you with a broad education so that you master all facets of the AV production process. There’s plenty of room for your own input and creativity. Over the course of the program, you can specialize in a specific aspect of filmmaking or continue to work as an all-around professional.
Building a portfolio is a central focus of the program. You can borrow all the AV equipment you need from the AV warehouse.
During the program, you’ll also build a large network that will be of great benefit to you later on.

What do I do?
You start with a client’s brief or your own idea. You then research the target audience and develop a concept for your production. During the pre-production process, you work on writing a script, creating a storyboard and finding a suitable location for your shoot.
Then it’s time to start filming. You record audio and make sure the lighting is right. In the final stage of the production process, you edit the footage and sound and add visual effects. With the finishing touches of graphic design and colour grading, you bring your production to life.
During the programme, you work on assignments for real clients or on projects you come up with yourself. By combining content, design and technology, you develop a product that communicates its message effectively.
All the equipment you need for this can be borrowed from the AV equipment department at SintLucas.
What do I make?
You’ll make that short film you’ve had in mind for a while, shoot a multi-camera project at a festival, film a cool music video, or create a commercial. The assignments range from commercial productions and documentaries to independent projects.
What do I learn?
You will develop skills in research, concept development, storytelling, camera techniques, sound engineering, editing, broadcasting and post-production. You will also learn how to apply new technologies, such as AI, in a production. In addition, there is a strong focus on your personal development and collaboration, helping you grow both as a specialist and as a person.
Naturally, general subjects such as Dutch, English, mathematics and citizenship are also part of the programme.
Where do I do my internship?
Depending on your interests, you can choose an internship at a video production company, a radio or TV station such as NPO or Omroep Brabant, an advertising or animation agency, a music venue, or a facilities management company.

What should I be able to do and like?
As an AV specialist, you know how to tell a story. You enjoy creating things and use AV software and equipment to bring your ideas to life. You have an inquisitive and proactive attitude, enjoy experimenting, are not afraid to make mistakes and come up with original solutions.
You also have a strong sense of communication and are able to put yourself in the target audience’s shoes. You are a true team player who takes initiative to create a great end product together. Finally, you enjoy variety in your work and like being out and about.
What can I do after SintLucas?
You may continue working for your internship company as an audiovisual specialist, camera operator or editor. Alternatively, you can start your own business or work as a freelancer.
You can also choose to continue your studies at a university of applied sciences (HBO), such as the HKU University of the Arts Utrecht, RITCS in Brussels or the Netherlands Film Academy in Amsterdam.
During the programme, you will build a strong network of fellow students, companies and industry professionals, which you can benefit from later in your career or as a freelancer.

Extra challenge?
Accelerated MBO/HAVO/VWO Track: Are you taking your HAVO/VWO/MBO-4 final exams this school year, or have you already earned your diploma? If so, you can complete the Audiovisual Specialist program in three years instead of four. Click here for more information.
Customized Program: For an extra challenge, you can participate in external projects, with or without supervision. If you need more support, you can practice extra in the studios in the evenings.
How does application and admission work?
Starting October 30, 2026, you can register via the website and will receive an invitation to a matching interview. You can bring along a creative piece of work or complete an assignment, after which you will receive a positive or negative admission recommendation.
