As an all-around stage and event technician, you use lighting, sound, and visuals to create the desired atmosphere.
You design and create lighting, video, and sound plans. You install the sound equipment, manage the lighting show, and handle the video technology. Together with the client, you set up the perfect stage for the show.
The pressure is high, you often work long hours, and safety is your top priority. Once the audience is there, there’s only one thing that matters: The show must go on.

What do I do?
After consulting with the client, you translate your creative concept into a technical production plan. Together with the crew, you are responsible for setting up and operating all sound, lighting and video equipment.
As an entry-level professional, you will be able to work with various types of theatre spotlights and lighting fixtures, microphones, mixing consoles, lighting desks, LED screens and media servers. Together with the stage manager, you are responsible for the overall production, ensuring that the technology supports and enhances the atmosphere of the event.
What do I make?
You’ll translate a creative idea into lighting, video, and sound technology, with a focus on rigging and safety, and put it into practice right away at festivals and concerts such as Festival Circulo and the Rowwen Hèze closing concert, as well as in theaters and at on-location events. Students in the Stage and Event Technology program also contributed to GLOW through the Rainbow project. Watch a video of that project here.
What do I learn?
You will develop skills in lighting, sound and video technology, rigging, electrical engineering and projection mapping techniques. You will learn how to research, experiment and visualise, how to prepare a technical production step by step, and how to work with professional software. The software we use at school includes:

You can also obtain the BMT certificate (Certified Mechanical Stage Technician) and learn how to work safely. You can also obtain your VCA certificate. Naturally, general subjects such as Dutch, English, mathematics and citizenship are also part of the programme.
The programme includes many excursions. For example, you might visit musicals or theatre performances, including a backstage tour, attend TV recordings and get a behind-the-scenes look, or take part in guest lectures from professionals working in the industry. The programme gives you plenty of opportunities to gain practical experience during events at SintLucas and for external clients.
You can also work on your own projects, for example through the theatre where you work or with the band you play in. In addition, you will collaborate with students from other programmes, both within and outside SintLucas. Through this personalised learning pathway, you will build a unique portfolio that reflects your own skills and interests.
Where do I do my internship?
Where you do your internship depends on your interests and learning goals. This could include local theaters, pop venues, national concert halls, or equipment rental companies.

What should I be able to do and like?
As an all-round stage and event technician, you enjoy variety. You don’t mind working evenings and weekends, and you are often prepared to work long days. As a true team player, you work with the rest of the crew to create an unforgettable experience for visitors.
You are good at understanding the client’s needs and translating them into a creative and technical plan. You are also able to keep an overview while paying attention to detail. When you encounter a problem, you tackle it with a solution-oriented approach.
What can I do after SintLucas?
With your diploma in hand, you can start working at a theatre or production company. Alternatively, you can work as a (freelance) technician and be hired for performances, festivals or concerts. Of course, you can also continue your studies at a university of applied sciences (HBO).

How does application and admission work?
Starting October 30, 2026, you can register via the website and will receive an invitation to a matching interview. You can bring along a creative piece of work or complete an assignment, after which you will receive a positive or negative admission recommendation.
