Informing, entertaining or presenting, it is increasingly done through visual storytelling, telling a story through images.
2D and 3D techniques make it possible to create an experience in a virtual world or produce visualisations in which physical and digital objects coexist.Meanwhile, there are already many applications in films, virtual reality, illustrations and other media expressions. Within the Digital design & motion track, you will learn to create these virtual worlds, animations and (digital) illustrations. You will, for instance, add different dimensions to an existing film or elaborate the prototype of a product in a 3D visualisation.
You will learn to create virtual worlds, animations and illustrations and elaborate your creations in detail.

What am I doing?
With your knowledge and talent for form, style and technology, you work on products that look good visually, fit the target audience and meet the client’s needs. Creativity is important here to get your story across and create a certain atmosphere. A typical approach for a Digital design & motion assignment? You start by researching form and style. You make test versions to discuss your ideas and find out whether they can be realised. Then you start working out the details in 2D and 3D visualisation programmes. To get your story across properly, you may also provide an expression with animations or a digital illustration.
During the programme, you can choose one of four fields of study:
1. Illustration 2D/3D, analogue and digital
2. Concept art & visual storytelling
3. 3D visualisation & real-time graphics
4. Animation & motion
What am I making?
Examples of products you will work on are virtual and augmented reality applications, product visualisations, animations and illustrations.
What am I learning?
You will develop skills in areas including 2D and 3D art, animation, concept art and illustration. You learn to work with various software programmes, including Blender. General subjects such as Dutch and maths are also part of the programme.
Where do I do my internship?
Depending on your interests and learning wishes, you will choose an internship at an animation or illustration studio, advertising agency, digital design agency or, for example, a product development company. Watch an internship film of the Digital design & motion programme here.
What should I be able to do and like?
You enjoy taking care of the visual part of a variety of media releases. You have an interest in technology, are artistic and know how to combine these. Naturally, you have a sense of form and style and are good at drawing and 3D modelling. You often work in a team, which is why good teamwork and communication skills are important. An inquisitive attitude and solution-oriented work are also important in this field.
What can I do after SintLucas?
After the programme, you can work at advertising agencies, animation studios, digital design agencies or, for example, in the fashion world or at product development companies. You can also continue your studies at higher vocational education institutes such as Illustration/Animation at AKV St. Joost, Creative media & game technologies at Breda University of Applied Sciences or programmes in ICT & media design. Starting your own studio is of course also a possibility.
