On the Creative technologies course, you will learn how to create a better and more enjoyable world by combining technology, media and creative thinking.
A park where the light walks with you? Or a toothbrush with an app, so children can see how well they brush their teeth? The Creative technologies direction combines technology, media, human behaviour and creative thinking to create a better and more fun world.
You experiment with the latest technologies, can think creatively and know what is going on in society. By combining this knowledge, you come to design and make creative, technical and interactive concepts and products.

What am I doing?
With your knowledge of interaction between humans and technology, you develop new products or solutions for societal challenges. You carry out projects using the latest forms of technology, such as robotics or sensory reality (aimed at creating experiences for the senses). Or you deploy existing technology in a new way.
A typical approach for a creative technologies assignment? You start by researching the problem and using that knowledge you start developing solutions. You experiment with different possibilities to arrive at an (interactive) product. Eventually, you build a working prototype or a demo version and test it with users. Important here is that you always ask yourself how far you can go in influencing people.
What am I making?
You develop and make products that make life a little nicer or better. This includes digital and physical applications such as experience or art installations. Applications for virtual and augmented reality or other interactive media like websites and apps are also part of the field of creative technology.
What am I learning?
You develop knowledge and skills in interaction design, social design, experience design, web design, communication, concept development, design, materials and psychology and ethics. Of course, general subjects like Dutch and maths are also part of the programme.
What should I be able to do and like?
You are curious and inquisitive, and engage when a task is still wide open. You have the guts to experiment and see problems as a challenge. Naturally, you know what is going on in society and are interested in people’s behaviour. You can think creatively and follow technological innovations closely. By combining this knowledge, you come up with innovative technical and interactive concepts and products.
What can I do after SintLucas?
Creative technologies is a new field that is developing rapidly. You can work in a broad field in professions where ‘human-machine interaction’ is important, such as user-experience designer, interaction designer and front-end developer. But you can also design multimedia experiences, social design or interactive art.
If you want to study further on a similar programme at higher vocational education level, you might choose a programme at the HKU in Utrecht (Interaction design, Interactive performance design or Creative media and game technologies), at Avans Hogeschool in Den Bosch (Communication and Multimedia Design or Advanced Business Creation), the Design Academy Eindhoven or Fontys Hogescholen in Eindhoven (ICT Media Design).
